Pacific ring of fire facts
A horseshoe located in the Pacific Ocean is the name given to the Pacific Ring of Fire. The Ring of Fire extends from America to Eastern Asia,Australia and New Zealand. It is famous because of the amount of active volcanoes. The area is close to plate tectonics ,that is what can influence the violent activity.
Volcanoes in the area
People believe that there are 452 volcanoes.Kilauea is the most active volcano in the world and it is located in The Ring of Fire. Some volcanoes located in the area can cause danger to the population nearby like for example: Mt Fuji in Japan,Mt Saint Helens and Mt Rainer in the American North West,Krakatoa in Indonesia,Mauna Loa in Hawaii, Galeras in Colombia and Sangay in Equator.
Most Dangerous Volcanoes
Because of all the activity of volcanoes in The Ring of Fire any volcano can cause a lot of trouble for people. If Mt Rainer were to erupt, 2.5 million of people near Seattle and Tacoma would have to evacuate fast. The Santa Maria volcano in Guatemala erupted catastrophically in 1902. If there had been more people, the impact in the Ring of Fire would be much greater. Mount Yasur in Vanuatu has been erupting for a hundred years. The danger there is real, and tourists risk toxic gases and lava flow.
Constant Changes
The Ring of Fire is different now because of the change caused by tectonics plates. The crust melts producing magma that goes to the different volcanoes, this helps to produce new volcanoes.
Risks
Most earthquakes are produced in The Ring of Fire. It is a difficult area to live because of the volcanic eruptions. Mt Saint Helens erupt in 1980 causing many deaths and many dollars damaged.
